Each June, in honor of Pride Month, the Bay Area celebrates the LGBTQ community with exuberant, inclusive, and hugely popular festivities. Though the events in San Francisco usually attract the most buzz, you don’t need to leave the sunny side of the Bay to get your pride on. Whether you’re part of the LGBTQ community or a friend, neighbor, or family member who supports it, the Home offers a host of Pride Month events for everyone to enjoy.

What: Concord Pride
Where: Concord
When: June 2

Concord’s Rainbow Community Center is hosting one of the Home’s biggest Pride Month celebrations. Held in Todos Santos Plaza, the Concord Pride festival boasts all the trappings of a big-city event, including entertainment by local performers; booths full of art to peruse and purchase; and an array of refreshments from food trucks, wineries, and breweries. So, feel free to kick back and spend the day soaking up the good vibes. .

What: Club 1220
Where: Walnut Creek
When: June 2 and 17

Club 1220 is a little-known piece of LGBTQ history in our own backyard. The lounge has been gay owned and operated since it first opened its doors in 1976, and it remains one of the oldest gay bars in the Home. This month, the nightlife mainstay is teaming up with the Rainbow Community Center to offer free club admission to all Concord Pride attendees on the night of the festival. Two weeks later, the club’s long-running drag show—Holotta’s UnBoylievable—hits the stage for a special Pride-themed show. .

What: Many Stories, Many Strengths: LGBTQI Pride
Where: Richmond
When: June 3

For a more laid-back gathering, head to Richmond for its Rainbow Pride festival. The event started as a community picnic a few years ago, but it’s picked up steam and expanded to include an entertainment stage and food trucks. Even as the celebration grows, it stays true to its roots by creating a relaxed, family-friendly day for people to come together and be themselves. .

What: Oakland LGBTQ Community Center events
Where: Oakland
When: All year long

Oakland’s big Pride Parade and Festival happens in September—not June. However, the Oakland LGBTQ Community Center salutes Pride throughout the year, hosting events that further its mission of supporting and enhancing the lives of LGBTQ individuals and their allies. Try a Wednesday-night meditation session; or enjoy poetry, stories, and songs at Queer and Trans Open Mic Nights every Thursday. .
