Audiences are in for a pulse-quickening treat when China’s most celebrated acrobats take the stage at Berkeley’s Zellerbach Hall this month. The Peking Acrobats—who have been juggling, cycling, tumbling, flying, and twirling with uncanny precision for more than three decades—raise the bar year after year with ever-more imaginative and daring routines. Drawing on traditional Chinese acrobatic practices, the troupe combines an age-old art form with 21st century razzle-dazzle.

“For generations, audiences have been amazed by these displays of rare human accomplishment,” says Rob Bailis, associate director of Cal Performances. That includes the signature stunt: an acrobatic showdown atop a tower of teetering chairs.
